Well, the last few weeks may not have been fun, but more like a dry run for Survivor. Nicholas had his first ear infection and is desperately trying to get in his 8th tooth which is giving him trouble. He’s not sleeping, so I’m not sleeping. He got a cut inside his gum from a fall and went on his first hunger strike. He wouldn’t eat or nurse for 2 days then on the 3rd day decided he would eat and drink from a cup but not nurse. He finally is back to nursing and eating which is nice, but we won’t know until tomorrow if he’s kicked his ear infection. I don’t think he has from the way he’s been up for 2 to 3 hours a night and cranky. Also, his ears are still a little weepy. Last night he woke up and I couldn’t figure out why he couldn’t get back to sleep until I finally noticed that both of his eyes had gooped shut again. This is what happened at the beginning of the ear infection 2 weeks ago. Tomorrow we head back to the dr’s and see what’s going on with my boy.
Isabella went through a hunger strike of her own. She didn’t eat for about a week. Finally ate and got violently ill and then stopped eating again for a few more days. The dr believes it is/was a stomach virus as she seems fine in all other respects except for not being able to keep any food down solidly. I kept her home from school and have quarantined both of the kids for the last week away from other kids in the hopes that this will help break the cycle of sickness our family has fallen under in the last month. Isabella seems to be doing very well now (and eating.) Hopefully that means one of us is on the mend.
I can’t seem to kick this silly cough that everyone has (including all the kids at the preschool.) It feels like a tickle cough and is very annoying. I finshed up the antibiotics for my upper respiratory and sinus infection and yet this cough and sore throat lingers. It feels very allergy/sinusy to me so I’m trying to go through the house and dust/clean/wash everything in site. Unfortunately work is really busy this week, so that’s unfortunate. I’m just attempting to survive.
Tomorrow is our 8th wedding anniversary. I wish we all felt better. Tim and I want to get a new mattress. Then we’ll give the bigger mattress to Nicholas so he can toss and turn and fall asleep. His problem with sleeping is that when he rolls over and hits his crib sides, he wakes up and then is ticked off that he was woken up. When he falls asleep in our bed, he tosses and turns then finally just crashes. We’re up for anything by now. It’s been almost a month of me not sleeping. Also, if he has a bigger bed and I need to lay down with him in the middle of the night, there will be a bit more room than in his crib.
There’s a lot more to share (including some pictures.) During the last month we had a few days where we weren’t sick and got to do some things. I’ve got some great photos to share, but right now I just wanted to post a quick update and then get back to work. I’ve got about 3 days of work to make up in 2 days with a baby boy who just wants his Mama.
I’m ready for some sleep. I believe these beautiful children of mine have conspired to deprive me of sleep while I’m at my weakest. There’s probably some master plan I am unaware of that they’ve hatched. So I have a sinus infection and upper respiratory infection and am still feeling pretty yucky. Also I’m kind of annoyed because my cough wakes up the baby when I’m trying to get him in his crib. Those darn teeth are giving him issues and he wants to sleep with us. Then just as I get him back in his crib, Bella comes in to cuddle up. So every few hours I’m trekking a child across the house when all I really want in the whole wide world is to get 2 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Wouldn’t that be fantastic!! Only a few more years!
I am so darn done with being sick. Today I’m off to the doctors to see what the heck is going on. It started like a severe allergy attack and then my sinuses went all wonky. Now it’s in my chest, head and giving me goopy eyes. Ugh!
On to the good stuff. The kids both had their checkups yesterday. Nicholas is 18 lbs and 31 inches. Isabella is a big 34 lbs and 39? inches tall. Both are doing well and healthy. Both had to get shots and that was heartbreaking. This was the first time Isabella really got upset about the whole shot thing. Unfortunately we didn’t have our favorite nurse who is uber efficient who would have made the process so much easier. I’ll have to check to make sure she’s still there. She’s been with the dr’s office since Isabella was born so she’s part of the fabric of our life. I’d miss her if she was gone. The doctor told me to start trying to get Nicholas to not nurse every 3 hours at night. I gave him a sippy cup when he woke up at midnight and was fine with that, but the 3:30 and 6:30 feedings I just nursed him. I figure we’ll go slow. Besides, there’s a point where you’re so tired that you just want to get a few hours of sleep. Especially since I feel yucky!
Til Later!
One thing I forgot to post. On Saturday I noticed that one of Nicholas’ top middle teeth had come through in the night. The other one looks ready to come through any day. Then this morning I realized that his bottom outer tooth had come through and it looks like it’s match on the other side is also ready to come through. So we’re at 6 teeth and counting with 2 more that look like they’re on their way in. Wow! No wonder he’s been such a drooly baby!
Oh my goodness! You can’t imagine how much fun we had on our girls night out. Isabella is now passed out cold in her bed but she was smiles all night long. We really needed to to do that and I need to remember to do it more often. Want to hear about it? If you don’t, just click away now because it’s fresh in my head and I’m so happy that I’m going to give you a play by play (to go along with the 103 photos I took with video.)
So, it’s 6 o’clock and Isabella is ready to go and I’m just about ready to go. Tim comes home and takes over Nicholas (to Nick’s chagrin) and we’re outta there. First up… Some dinner. At least that was the idea. So we headed over to Steak n Shake to get some chocolate shakes and chicken nuggets. After waiting for 15 minutes without anyone thinking to take our order, I told Bella that we didn’t want to miss the show so we were going to have to leave. She wisely responded “Well, if they can’t get around to taking our order, we should just go.” So up we went.
Because we needed something in our bellies and my throat is still sore from all this sinus yuckiness, we drove through Starbucks and got a few Frappacinos. Bella had a vanilla bean which she liked but then wanted to try my Mocha and then decided she wanted them both. LOL! Crazy kid. She drank them and then fell asleep about 10 minutes away from the TD Waterhouse center.
Once there, I finally told her what show we were going to and she took off running for the center in her pink glittered shoes. She was like a pink version of Dorothy but dressed like Tinkerbell (Mama’s favorite.) We made it through the throng of Disney Princess dressed up little girls and inside the arena. Wow! It was packed. First stop was the picture booth because you could take your picture with a big Ariel (Isabella and Maria’s current favorite.) While getting pictures taken, we heard the preshow start. We grabbed our photo and started zipping our way through the crowd to get to our seats.
We found our seats (and Maria and her Aunt waiting for us.) The show had started and from the moment we say down, Isabella did not stop smiling. She loved every minute of it. During the intermission she got a spinning light Tinkerbell and every time everyone cheered, she spun it. The show was absolutely fantastic. It had a fire breathing dragon and fireworks. No joke. It was probably one of the best shows I’ve seen including the Broadway series. I completely enjoyed myself and the girls thought it was fabulous.
We met up with “Mama” Maria, Aurora and Maria’s cousin outside of the Arena. The girls played for a while and then it was time to get into the car. We stopped off at the Denny’s to get some dinner (finally!) and Isabella charmed the wait staff and we finally ate. After getting back in the car to head home, she said that we should do Girls Night Out more often. Then she said we should also do a Girls Night Out with Daddy and Nicholas. It was cute. A few minutes later my little princess was out cold for a good nights sleep.
Sweet dreams, sweet princess. Your Mama loves you best! We had the best time tonight. Just me and my girl.
